Biography

From the very beginning of Brian's life, people knew he was different. He was always interested in expressing his creativity. In his first 12 years of school he would spend more time "expressing his creativity" in the margins of his schoolbooks and homework, than on the schoolwork itself. Receiving no support for his artistic endeavors, he figured out that he must rely on his own methods of teaching himself, and began to focus on his own goals in life.

Brian was always interested in many different disciplines of creativity: from painting, photography, and sculpture to music, video, and performance. For years, people would try to pressure him into thinking that in order to be successful, he would have to focus on one thing and forget everything else. These ideas and comments fueled his desire to conquer everything and prove them wrong. He began to invest in his own "do what makes you happy" philosophy of life.

Attending Virginia Commonwealth University, Brian majored in sculpture and minored in painting. He began to explore and expand his techniques in drawing, painting, photography, music and video art. The sculpture department at VCU introduced him to video art, and it was here he learned how to edit linear video deck to deck. Dissatisfied with the production levels and quality of the video, he made it a personal goal to learn and master the art of video production. He then used the video production skills he taught himself to begin a career in television.

Beginning his career as a master control operator at a local station, he spent hours watching television programs that were less than entertaining. Because of this, Brian began to think of a television show that might be "cool" to watch, as well as beneficial to the creative and artistic community. Soon after, he gave birth to "ART or Something Like It!" In addition to television production, he continues to show artwork in New York City galleries and perform regularly with his rock band,"things outside the skin."
